Everyone knows the old saying. If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. That made sense back in the day when cooking your average meal at home made the kitchen hot and unbearable. It was all the more reason for an entrepreneurial company to come along in 1933 and not only change things in the kitchen, but drastically alter the way houses were designed and built for years to come.
Your great-grandmother’s house probably featured a closed off kitchen at the back of the property with a window or two that was opened often to let in fresh air. Cooking over a hot stove was the perfect recipe for heat, smoke and odors that needed an escape route. That was enough to prompt Vent-A-Hood to come along and answer the call in a new way that shortened that journey from the window to right above the cooktop.
Fast-forward 80 years, and we’re still doing what we do best. Not only did Vent-A-Hood uncover a consumer demand for a new appliance category. We made the kitchen inviting. You could cook without creating a sauna. Over time that meant people could actually congregate in the kitchen, talk, cook, eat and be together. An amazing evolution began to take place.
We take a little pride in today’s elevated status of the kitchen as the heart of the home. Nowadays, kitchens are places where people literally entertain. Homes are designed with kitchens as part of great rooms that create an open environment for everyone to enjoy all at once.
